Morro Bay - January 2010
Having not gotten a real
ride in since "last year" - by January 2nd, I was "jonsin'
bad" and needed a ride. Weather was iffy, going north was almost
certainly going to be wet, so I decided to head south through the inland
coastal route and then back home the next day up the coast. I
got a hold of a friend of mine who lives in Monrovia to see if he wanted
to meet someplace for dinner. Explained the insatiable need or a
ride and that I thought maybe Solvang or places in that area would be
good. Bruce had a better idea. "How about I meet you about half
way and we ride." How does one say no?
I rode through the Santa
Cruz Mountains and then down through Monterey, and then up over through
Carmel Valley on my way to the rendezvous point.
(Still learning to use my
new travel camera, a Nikon Coolpix - so some of the pictures are not as
good as I would
have liked, some are better than I had hoped.)

(Why does this picture scream
Deliverance to me?)

Bruce and I decided to meet just
outside Fort Hunter
Liggett and then ride through over Nacimiento/Fergusson Road - an epic
road.

From there we would head south and ride what Bruce refers to as the
Cayucos Loop. Just south of Cayucos is Old Creek Road, we rode that
north east than back over to Cambria, then Hwy 46 to Hwy 101 and back Hwy
41 to Morro Bay.

Dan
Sunday we got up and after breakfast
(non-descript, no big deal sort of place) we headed back up 41 to get a
few more pictures since it was getting a bit too dark when we were coming
in the night before. After that, we headed back to Cambria to Nitt
Witt Ridge - read about it in the link. More California eccentricity.

We stopped for gas and
parted ways, Bruce back south, me back up the coast. I did stop at Año
Nuevo State Park to take a picture of the Sea Lions

Other than that, it was a
non-stop ride home - 161 miles up Hwy 1. Should have enough gas to
get to the gas station in the morning. If the rest of the
year/decade can have rides as good as this one it will be heaven.
